Moving my household stuff from india to toronto

hello,
I want to move my household stuff from india to toronto by the end of this month.
The shipper has quoted reasonably good price but is asking me to get AD code and import export permit.
Anyone who has ever shipped goods from india to canada earlier has any idea if this type of paper work is really required or is there any other way to ship goods?
