Hi there,
I have an offer from Microsoft in Redmond and I wanted to understand if anyone has moved internally to Canada? What are the requirements to do so and what kind of salary reduction should one expect? I would like to make a move next year and wanted to see if someone has already done so with Microsoft?

What did Microsoft say when you asked them ?

In general moving from US to Canada expect moderate to massive salary cut, anywhere between 25-50% in USD terms. Vancouver is not that cheaper compared to Seattle, but if you can move with a job to Vancouver, nothing like it. Believe me Microsoft will pay much more than any local companies in Vancouver......and you dont want to test Vancouver job market.
I know few cases, Amazon guy when he moved from Seattle to Vancouver, went from $200k USD to $170k CAD, also his RSU were trimmed.
My cousin with Big4 and in decently senior position went from $300k USD to barely $235k CAD. In short it will hurt if you are moving to the Canadian entity of your company.
In my company as well, which is a mid-west based agribusiness company, same IT role pays $130k USD here in mid-west, in our Calgary and Regina office pays close to $110k CAD. In my recent experience, I will get a much senior resource in Regina compare to mid level guy here in mid west.
