mother's allowance is it social assistance?

Hey there
I am a Canadian trying to sponsor my Guatemalan soon to be hubby. I have a question about social assisstance. Is collecting mother's allowance considered social assistance? What about Baby bonus? I am two months pregnant and we will be apply around the time Peanut is born but i don't know if it counts or not! (to be honest i don't even know much about mothers allowance or how it works.)

yes to the "mother's allowance", no to the "baby bonus"

If by 'mother's allowance' you mean maternity benefits though EI, that is not social assistance. Neither is the Canada Child Tax Benefit.
