Hi,

I would like to know how much money my spouse can bring into Canada in the form of cash or bank draft or Travellers cheque. At Indian customer my spouse has to declare anything about cash she is carrying.

Waiting for your comments

Thanks

Your spouse can bring any amount, but she must declare anything over $10,000 Canadian.

Hope Indian customs will not have any problem if she is carrying more than 10,000$

Does she need to carry more than $10k?

Why not transfer the funds from India to Canada via your bank?

Its not as smooth as you would imagine due to limitations of how much you can xfer from India to $$ ( Foreign Exchange Rules )

Thats fine, you just need to declare it - don't worry about India part, spouse is migrating

Ask in ND thread, tons of folks have experience in this

Just declare any amount that is equivalent to $10,000 CDN or more when arriving in Canada. The wife and I did this twice. She will need to fill out Form E677, Cross-Border Currency or Monetary Instruments Report - Individual.

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/forms-formulaires/e677.pdf

I think she will need to declare that she is leaving India if she is carrying a certain amount. The wife and I had to declare when we left Japan. You will need to look this up.

She may be asked to explain what the source is/was for the money.

CBSA will want to be satisfied that it is not from an illegal source, so she should be prepared to answer their questions about where it came from.

We were asked what we did for a living. That was it. The agents realized that
1) The wife had a PR in process (first time);
2) The wife "landed" in Canada (second time).

However, it might also depend on one's nationality.
