I was selected for MITACS Global Research Internship which connects students to Canadian Professors via projects, and funds by providing a stipend of 9000 CAD. I had attached my award letter to indicate the same. However I received the following this morning,

Dear MUKUL DEV, Thank you for your interest in coming to Canada. I have reviewed your temporary resident visa (visitor visa) application and supporting documentation to assess whether you meet the requirements for a visitor visa (https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/ services/visit-canada/eligibility.html). This includes assessing whether you are coming to Canada temporarily for the reason(s) you describe in your application. I have determined that your application does not meet the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) (https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/I-2.5/index.html) and Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR) (https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/sor-2002-227/ index.html). I am refusing your application.
• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as required by paragraph 179(b) of the IRPR (https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2002-227/ section-179.html). I am refusing your application because you have not established that you will leave Canada, based on the following factors:
• The purpose of your visit to Canada is not consistent with a temporary stay given the details you have provided in your application.
• Your current employment situation does not show that you are financially established in your country of residence

I am currently an Undergraduate student, so I entered Unemployed when they asked for all employment and activities since age of 18 in form.
I had clearly mentioned my entry and exit dates in application and duration of internship being 12 weeks.
I didnt need a work permit because I applied for Short-term work (120 days) for researchers (Global Skills Strategy).

What should I do now?

So you were applying for a TRV. To get a TRV you need to show funds to come to Canada. Your employment could be student. How much in funds did you show for 120 day research term. Canada is so expensive and $9k will not fund a visit.

Order GCMS notes to read officer notes for bullet one. It can mean you don’t have ties to return, no travel history etc.

Thanks @Naturgrl for your advice, I have decided to apply again on IRCC's website, and I will change employment to student. For the matter of funds, I plan to show that my father will fund my initial expenses for which I will show his pay slip. For the matter of ties to my country, I plan to show my home country's student ID.

I had one more doubt, I had previously done unpaid internship for duration of 1 month at Air Force for AI-ML, so when they asked:
Did you serve in any military, militia, civil defence unit, security organization or police force (including non-obligatory service, reserve or voluntary units)?
I answered yes.

Do I need to answer yes, since all I did was a technical internship on a small project.

Do I need to do anything else?

You need to submit bank statements over the past 4 months. Payslips are not cash but future income. You should answer YES. You really should be getting GCMS notes to know reasons for refusal.
