Mistakenly got reported to reported to Toronto Crime Stoppers

Hi All,


How to tackle if you are being mistakenly/erroneously reported to Toronto Crime Stoppers (Not IRCC or Canadian border Protection).

Someone has reported me that I will be visiting to Canada and will never return to my country.

Which however, is not true. How can I tackle this or undo the report.

The individual is willing to help and undo the damage caused.

Do I need to seek lawyer or contact any specific department?

People don’t get mistakenly reported to crime stoppers. Even if they attempted to take back what they said that would look suspicious as well.

Withdrawing a crime stoppers tip doesn’t stop the investigation. There would be concern that someone is being forced to withdraw the tip so that wouldn’t stop the investigation.

"Crime Stoppers" has no legal authority or power to do investigations of any type. It's a non profit organization. The can pass information along to the police, but beyond that they cannot investigate or prosecute anyone or anything. That's entirely up to police (or the equivalent empowered agency).

I know that but calling crime stoppers and trying to withdraw a statement would not stop them from passing on the tip to the relevant organization.

Then why talk about an investigation when they don't investigate anything?
