Hello everyone

I'm an international student in the US and I applied for a TRV yesterday.

I think I made an error on the TRV application form (IMM5257E) regarding the start date of my immigration status in the US.

I put in the earliest admission date on my I-20 instead of the day I actually entered the US, which was 2 weeks later.

Is this grave? What do I do? I'm freaking out bad.

Yes it is.

Send a case specific inquiry:

Wow! Thanks so much for your prompt response. Do you think I can be rejected because of this? Do you think I should withdraw my application and reapply?

Yes, you can be rejected. Worst case scenario you can be accused of providing false data in order to decieve CIC.

You can withdraw and reapply. The withdraw process takes between 2 - 4 weeks.

Man this is horrible. Jalex23 what do you think are my chances? I just submitted the CSE now.

This is just so terrible.

No one can tell any chances. But sending the CSE should make everything good now.

Just to add to Jalex23's replies....

1. When did you apply and when did you realize this mistake?

2. In addition to the CSE, you must also send emails to the visa office that is responsible for your region i.e. NY/LA + state this error was due to oversight (not intentional)

3. As Jalex23 has said, you've sent the CSE so it's sorted.... especially as you've sent it before IRCC contacted you for an explanation

4. People make mistakes. You've already informed IRCC. So don't get stressed out :)

Thanks for your response. I really feel bad about it. Applying for a Canadian visa has been quite stressful.

1. I applied yesterday and realized the possible mistake a few hours later as I kept thinking about it. The application asks for start date and end date of current immigration status. All I could think of was my I-20. Because i felt my student status began from the authorized date on my I-20. Also end date is on my I-20 as well.

I also reasoned that if start date is only when you enter the country, does it mean that if an international student in US travels back to his/her country for holidays, he/she has lost his student status and gets a new start date when he/she reenters the US? Obviously not. Meaning that physical prescence in the US is not required to have a deemed status right? I guess I analysed it too much.

2. I sent an email to the NY office. All i could find was one email address for general enquiries.

Thanks so much again.

I just got an email now saying my application has been updated. But when I login to my account I see no updates.

Yup, that's the one.

This means some internal processing has been done on your application

So I just got an email from CPC Ottawa that my file has been updated.

Thanks again Jalex and Bryanna.

Hi Forte can you please share how did you approach about updating the information? Did you send case specific query? or any other route, please share some details as I am sure will be useful for many...

thanks!

Hi I just sent a CSE and an email to the visa office for my area. It looks like CPC Ottawa responded to the email I sent (and not the CSE).
