Mistake on form sent

I realized I made a mistake on the generic form with dates The question where it asks , "Current residence" I put August 2010 as the date from which I was on a work permit. I was on a post graduation work permit from 2010, however I was living in canada from Sept 2005 on a study permit. I realize now, that I should've put 2005 as I was living in Canada from then although on a different status.

I will call CIC on monday morning for instructions on what to do but I was wondering what usually happens? Do I fill up a new form and write covering letter explaining the mistake? I am scared that the application may get returned. thanks for any reply.
