Hi All,

My wife is a Canadian Citizen by birth (and a dual USA citizen now). My 13 year old daughter was born in the USA and is a Canadian citizen due to her mother's birth in Canada. However, we are just now getting the paperwork together for her to apply for her Citizenship Certificate.

We're looking at having my wife sponsor me for permanent residency in the near future. However, my wife may need to move up to Canada for work before I do. I'm trying to figure out if my daughter can move with her while awaiting her Citizen Certificate to be processed, and if so, if she can also freely attend public school while the certificate is being processed.

Thanks!

Yes, she can attended the public schools without any issue. When you fill out the school forms, make sure to include her current status (visitor or PR) in the forms. We did the same for our kids. It's not an issue at all. All the best!

Thanks for the reply! So would my daughter just enter as a visitor when she comes to the border, and then because her mother is Canadian be given access to public schools? Immigration would have no problems with this?
