I'm a Canadian Citizen who only wants to return for 5 days. Do I need to stay for the 14-day Quarantine period or can I leave earlier than that if an airline will send me tickets?

No, you have to stay for a minimum of 14 days for quarantine purposes - being a citizen does not change this.

Devil's advocate. How will they know? When you leave Canada, the only person you're interacting with from a Custom's person is an American Custom's agent.

They will know, CBSA and US customs share info, maybe you won't be in trouble when you leave but maybe you will be when you come back again. Why even think of it, you would be negligent in doing what you are supposed to do, that is very un-Canadian. Don't try to skirt the rules. These are tough time for everybody, don't be part of the problem, be part of the solution.

Never a good idea to assume CBSA isn’t aware of who is leaving Canada. The information is also collected from airlines and submitted to CBSA for review.

Just so everyone knows, I wasn't going on a vacation. My little sister passed away recently and my parents have been struggling. I will hold off on my travel plans until I can stay the full 14 days.

My condolences - that must be very difficult for all of you. Good decision to hold off until you can visit for at least 14 days.

We do know they are checking up quite regularly to make sure people are following the rules. Sometimes this is through calls, sometimes through in person visits. There are substantial fines involved if you fail to follow the rules.

I was back in August (for the actual passing) and we got all the follow up calls and definitely followed the rules to a T. Totally appreciate how the country is handling COVID so much better than they have here in the U.S.

Thanks everyone for your input.
