Migrating with a Rescue/Pet Bird

Hi,

I am a Canadian PR holder.
I am in the US and I will be moving to Canada by road in a few weeks.

We recently rescued a baby bird (from the street) and have been caring for it since then. It is just a few days old and will not be able to fly off and survive on its own in the next few weeks.
Can we migrate into Canada through the land border with the bird?

You should hand the bird over to an animal care facility in the US vs. trying to bring it to Canada. Starlings do not typically fall into the category of caged birds that people keep as pets and you may be challenged to prove this falls into the "pet" category. It's really a wild bird.

Additionally, you can't meet the below requirement unless you defer your move to Canada by a few months.

• the bird was in your possession for the 90 day period preceding the date of importation and wasn't in contact with any other birds during that time

Agreed. It won't be. It will be classified as a wild animal and there are several requirements that aren't met which are mandatory for bringing a pet bird into Canada.

I suggest you to contact a local bird rescue in your area.
