Hello,

I am interested to find out how i can migrate my whole family to canada. i have an 8 year old son and i am married. my husband has a seaman visa and he is here staying with us in the united states. My sister lives in vancouver and i was wondering how can i petition my son and my husband. will my sister be able to assist me? can she petition me?

Pretty soon there will be a list published of 38 occupations that Canada wants to fast forward through the skilled worker program. If yours is on it, you can apply as a skilled worker. Otherwise, you would probably need to go through a provincial nominee program, find a job, get a temporary work permit, get an open work permit for your spouse, work for a few months, then apply for permanent residency through the provincial nominee program with the support of your employer. Your sister can not sponsor you from BC. If she lived in AB or MB, she could.

It's not clear whether you are a Canadian citizen or PR. If you are, you can apply to sponsor your family yourself. If you are not a citizen or PR, you would have to apply through one of the avenues Leon suggested. There is a slim possibility that your sister (if she is a Canadian citizen or PR) could sponsor you, but you'd have to research those requirements carefully. It's a bit complicated.
