Hey guys! I just had some questions. So I'm a Mexican student who go into the University of Alberta. I applied for my study permit on Nov 26. Received biometrics instructions on Dec 3 and will be giving my biometrics on Dec 20 in the United States.

I'm wondering if anyone knows how long after the biometrics will I be receiving my letter of introduction? And if my passport will be taken right away.

I ask because my family lives in Canada, and I would love to go see them in time for Christmas but I don't know if my letter will be ready by then or if I'll still have my passport so I can go see them and come back for my letter of introduction. FYI, Mexican nationals don't need a study permit, only an ETA, which is automatic (I believe).

Biometric given on 20th? Christmas won't be possible to visit your family because your application will not be processed until you give biometric that's when you can countinue to count days of the normal Mexico process. ie; if normal visa processing for Mexico is 3 weeks your three week we resume once they get your biometric. LOI is when you get approved. If you are applying online, you will get a message to submit your passport once they approve your application. How long it will take, I don't know. you might be lucky and get approve on time or after if applications is numerous.

Thank you for the response! So if I applied only and the LOI will be sent online as well?

LOI is only issued when your application is approved and visa stamped on your passport. And yes, everything will be communicated to you online.

Thank you for the info. Mexicans don't get visas anymore, but I still think the other stuff should still be the same.

What do you mean Mexican's don't get visa? like Mexico is in visa free list? by visa I meant TRV.

Yes, Mexico is visa free (even student visas), we are issued ETAs instead. Which is just an entry code.

I see, once your application is approved, that's it. I don't think if visitor visa needs LOI. Unless you are a student collecting study permit.
