Ah medicals, seems so simple right?

My wife and I sponsored my son over to Canada. He has is PR paperwork now and needs to be in Canada by a set date (as you expect) based on his medical expiring.

I am trying to find out if he just goes and gets a new medical (say tomorrow) that the new medical supersedes the older one and we can move the date of landing based on that or do we need to talk to someone at the CIC?

I haven't found much clarity on the subject.

Thanks!

No it doesn't work that way. If he can't travel to Canada by the expiry date on the COPR, you need to contact his visa office immediately to inform them. You will then need to wait for instructions from the visa office in how to proceed.
They may extend his current medical, but would need to issue a new COPR with an updated expiry.
They may request a new medical exam, and again would need to issue a new COPR with new expiry
Or (worst case) they may just cancel the entire app, and tell you to re-apply from scratch closer to when he actually can move to Canada.

OK, thanks, makes sense. It was for a wedding and a nephew being born, so only an 8 week delay. However, it took my PR 6 months to turn up, so was hoping it was a possibility, never mind!

Thanks for the reply.

When our son was about 3 months old, we got a medical for him. So, yes, you need a medical :)
