Hi,

To lay the premise:
- I have read a couple of threads indicating there's no separate medical treatment visa and application is via normal visitor visa with supporting documents to prove the need for medical emergency/treatment in Canada for a family.

- I have gone through the requirements - link below - if seeking a visa for medical treatment in Canada.
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...-resident-applications-medical-treatment.html

- Although I am now a Canadian citizen, my dad suffering from retroperitoneal fibrosis (so diagnosed and currently receiving care in specialist hospital in Benin Republic) is a Nigerian. His condition has deteriorated, currently bed-ridden though conscious and attending physicians seem to be at their wits' end and can't further help the situation, so I'm thinking to bring him over to Calgary, Alberta for treatment

QUESTIONS:

1) Has anyone successfully made such or similar arrangements for a parent and how did you go about it?

2) What should I be looking at financially to have this happen?

If more information is needed, please ask away.

Thanks Joseph.

If his condition is so severe that he is bed-ridden, he has little chance of approval. How is he supposed to travel in that serious of a condition? It sounds like he would need a medical flight, which in and of itself could be tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars. In order to just apply, you would need to make arrangements with a doctor for treatment and payment. For that level of care, expect the bill to be hundreds of thousands of dollars. You may be required to prepay this.

If you have the financial resources, you can try but honestly, expect a refusal. He would likely be seen as high risk to overstay and to cause excessive demand on Canada's already overburdened healthcare system.

If he is really bedridden, then I don't see how coming to Canada will be possible without a very high level of expense. No airline will accept him as a regular passenger. That's your first problem. You would need to make arrangements for a medical flight. These are extremely expensive - I believe you can expect $50,000+ since a special/modified plane must often be used and the airline will demand that a doctor and nurse accompany him. You would need to be prepared to spend this money before he even arrives in Canada and receives treatment here. The costs of his treatment in Canada will be on top of this (and will also be expensive). If you really want to have a go at this, I think you need to be prepared to show that you have a few hundred thousand dollars available to spend on his treatment. Is this feasible for you?
