Hi guys.

I booked my medical last night and the receptionist asked if I needed a hep b/c test.

Can I ask if this is needed and where it requests this?

Hep B is a mandatory test in medicals.

But usually they know about it and do it for all applicants.

Thanks, I thought it might be. The receptionist was a bit clueless. I'm waiting for the Dr to call and confirm everything :)

Ok. The blood tests they do are HIV 1&2, Hep B and VDRL. :)

yes doctor would know.

i dont think Hep B is mandatory for every citizen... only some countries HepB is mandatory... I'm indian so my doc said upfront HepB is mandatory for you... and charged me $75 CAD more for the same...

oh well...

correction - it was some other Hep, maybe C or D or something...but i got charged extra - thats all I'm saying LOL

I have struggled to find detailed info on CIC site about medicals. There's a general overview of it but not a detailed one, unless my Google skills are failing.

It's £39 (about $75CAD) extra for me too. I might just say yes anyway to it unless I got more confirmation. Without generalising we did travel through Asia...Although we also got Hep b vaccines as well... Hmmm....

Curses! And cic expect us to maintain the minimum funds when all those costs about £2500! I don't poop gold!!

Just make appointment and ask for medical test for immigration to Canada. According to your country you will get list of tests.
Some are must for everybody, while others are not required in some countries.
For example here, Hep B test is not required (it was not listed on the test list)
We also practicaly do not have Tub. in my country (but then again you can get more info from the chest x-ray than just that).
I have paid 260 EUR per person (which in my eyes is already expensive)

Thank you. I'll wait for the dr to confirm. I don't think hep b is high risk in the UK so hoping it's not required. Does cic have a list of required countries?

I know for sure, that the doctor opened the whole electronic system and he was adding there basic information (passport info) and also photos. at the end of the page, there was the list of required medicals. examinations, but hepatitis was not mentioned there (it is a blood test).
I also clearly remember that when my husband came here he had to do the hep. test and at that time they were taking more blood than now.

Hep B is not mandatory. There are 2 types of tests. One is required and the other is refereed. General Medical exam and X -Ray are under required tests and HIV and Syphilis are under refereed tests. Hep B is not at all required or refereed for most of the Indian applicants.

Ah I see!

So the dr generated their own checklist and then I complete what that asks for! That makes so much more sense! Thank you. I really have very little faith in that receptionist!

When you meet Dr, he will ask you for any History of disease and only if he feels like taking some extra tests he would suggest it. Or else it is CIC who decides which tests are to be taken. Before appointment it is not possible to suggest any test, so receptionist might have misunderstood something.
