I took my medical today at Visa Medicals in London.

Chest X-Ray (evidence of an old chest infection from way back, Radiologist didn't seem concerned)
Blood drawn (results to come)
Urine Tested all good: no blood, sugars and protein (protein is a very good marker for kidney problems)
Breath sounds good, flexibility good, eyesight good (no hearing test)
Questions about mental and physical health over time all good.

Now I wait. If I hear nothing from Visa Medical then it's all good and in the lap of the visa officer...

Pleasure, thought I'd outline what happened to give anyone else a rough idea of what to expect going in. All very painless, over inside of an hour (Dr did a really good job of finding a vein first time considering my arms are covered in tattoos!). Some paperwork to do (standard) but it's more just checking details and signing to confirm things.

Now I wait like a poised waiting thing...

Assume there may be a chance you will need TB testing if there were some scarring in your lung x-rays.

Update on Medical: radiologist changed her mind and raised concerns about what she saw so I've just been back in for Sputum sample collection to rule out the tiny, teeny, weeny possibility of TB. I've never been symptomatic for TB (even when I've had chest infections there's not been any coughing up of bloody matter) so I'm not overly worried about it coming back positive. It's just frustrating that it's cost an extra £115 and will add 6-8 weeks on to the process...

Even though TB can be detected in blood the fact that there's some minor lung damage apparently means that Canada and the US insist on sputum culture testing to rule it out completely. I guess that's fair enough.

They've given me a letter to give to my GP to get a referral for a CT scan to see what what's going on in there... there's loss of volume on both sides and no obvious cause. I'm interested to know the results.

My thinking is that any damage to them occurred back when that Icelandic volcano popped a few years ago. I was walking to work every day and having to stop every 5-10 meters to use my asthma inhaler! Effectively breathing in vaporised rock dust for a few weeks... That and the time I had bust into a projection booth to kill power to a projector that was essentially on fire inside it, in a smoke filled room... I was a quick as I could be but still...

I'll keep the thread updated.

Still waiting on the results of the sputum tests, should get those in the next couple of weeks; not expecting anything to show up on the results.

Got another chest x-ray next week and a consult with a chest specialist; if I get the all clear from that guy (immigration apparently want a chest specialist's report) I could get the green light.

Annoying (and expensive) but I guess it has to be done.

Got the results of the sputum tests back today: all negative. I was expecting that to be the case as I've never had TB, never coughed up blood even during a couple of very spicy chest infections and a case of the flu back in the day.

Next up is a meeting with a chest specialist on Tuesday, if he signs off on me then, holiday season allowing, things should restart back at pace and start moving back in the right direction!

It would be nice to get the all clear from him as a Christmas present! :)

I'll update again next week post consult.

Hope everyone's well and not going too bonkers in this stupid year...

Had my consultation with the chest specialist. After listening to my breathing, taking a history, with blood oxygen saturation at 100% and the sputum tests coming back negative for TB (as expected) he was happy to sign off on my not having anything wrong that should affect my visa application. His opinion is that whatever it is is either not a problem or it's a problem that Canada is more than capable of handling should it ever get worse...

He does want to see my chest x-rays to see for himself what sparked all of this and if he's concerned about anything he'll request my GP refer me for a chest CT to get to the bottom of what's actually there...

It's good news but still with a caveat attached. Not sure if the medicals people will throw up another block along the lines of "OK, so he doesn't have TB but we can't proceed until we know what's what..." Now I wait (again...)

Hopefully all will be well! A friend of mine developed active TB before she submitted her application. At the time of her medical, she had finished her course of TB medication and was OK'd by the panel physician.

At the port of entry in Canada, she was reminded by the immigration officer to come in for a consult with a pulmonologist soon after they had settled in. Canada just wanted to make sure that she was no longer contagious and that the infection had fully cleared up.

Hoping you get the all-clear for your ME.
