Medical exams for the 2nd time

Hi,
My husband and I submitted our application for permanent residency through the Express Entry program on october 1st, 2025. I was pregnant then. In the meantime, my son was born in Feb and we had to add him to the application. We didn't hear back from the administration until September 2026. They recently requested that we submit additional information for my son, which is totally normal. We knew that we would have to take the baby for a medical exam. What we didn't expect was to go back for a medical exam for the two of us. We already completed the medical exam in May 2025 for the application we submitted in October. Why are they asking us to take the medical exam for the 2nd time? It doesn't make sense. This procedure takes time, and it's not cheap either. We are starting to lose patience... Even if we go back for a 2nd medical check, can they request that we take language tests for a 2nd time too? I mean, the medical results from last year may have expired but we are not responsible for that. If they take ages to process applications, why do we have to pay for it again? Any advice on the matter would be highly appreciated, since we can't talk to anyone directly. Here's another frustration (not being able to reach these people)....

If your medicals are expired, you need to retake them, you have no choice.

Your language test results won't expire while your application being processed.

No. A child under the age of 14 is exempt from giving biometrics.

But on the bright side if IRCC asks to redo the medicals, it most likely means that your application is progressing and might be close to be finalized.

IRCC does try to limit how many times people have to repeat their medicals but you had to add another person very close to when you likely would have completed processing so that added additional processing time which.meant that your 1st medicals expired. You also went through a major health change being pregnant, giving birth and then being postpartum which can come with some significant medical issues/changes. Often when it is quite close to the 1 year expiry date IRCC decides to waive another medical although then that leads to a very short time timeframe before you need to land in Canada. Your husband is close to 1.5 years from when he did his 1st medical and your health could have changed drastically since your 1st medical which is why you both got the requests. As others have pointed out that this usually the last thing that needs to be completed.
