Medical Exam Question/Visa Question!

My husband and I got married two weeks ago, we were planning on submitting for spousal sponsorship (Im Canadian he's American.) When he goes back in August.

My first question is, does he have to do the medical exam here in Canada, or can he do it at a clinic where he lives?

Second question, if he cannot do the medical exam where he lives, and has to do one up here, how long do we have before the results expire? For example, if we want to submit the package at a later date,
lets say december but he gets the medical exam done in August, is it still viable?

Third question and hopefully last for now... When the visa gets accepted, how long does he have until he has to come up here? I only ask this in the case that we are worried the visa will go through before he is finished his final year in college. If the visa is issued and he still has two or three months left of schooling, will he be able to come after that, or does he have to come to Canada right away?

He can do it anywhere there is a CIC panel physician. You can search around their website here http://www.cic.gc.ca/pp-md/pp-list.aspx for a list of panel physicians here or where he lives in the US.

The results are valid for one year so you will want to do the medical as close as possible to the date you submit the application.

I'm not 100% certain here, but I believe the Confirmation of Permanent Residence is valid to the date the medical expires.

When calling to book the medical exam they said something about bringing any papers immigration has sent regarding the medical exam.
We have not yet applied for anything nor have we sent anything in, this is a bit confusing for me, are we supposed to have papers?

No, you won't have any papers yet so you don't need to bring any documents. If it's necessary to do a second medical, CIC will send you a form, but for a first medical you don't need any CIC docs. You used to have to bring a form and some photos. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that's necessary either now.

i think photos are still necessary, not the form. when you call to make the appointment, ask them specifically what they need, and double check they will give you the "emedical" receipt at the end of the appointment. they may just use the passport photo for the receipt. i can't remember exactly...

call and ask the doctore if they require you to bring passport/immigration photos. some may, and some may not.

As for the visa time, it depends if they extend the medical . So for e.g if you send the application in Sept you will have one year, if they don't extend them . Some do get them extended but this is something the issuing visa office does, something we cant demand to have done. However he could land then come back providing ITS NOT MONTHS AND MONTHS AWAY THAT HE WILL RETURN .

Yes, best to call the doctor and see what they require. I can say this. When my wife had her first medical in January 2013 she had to bring some photos. When she did her re-medical in February 2014 that wasn't necessary and the nurse took the photos herself with a digital camera.

Question guys! Read on some old thread here that if you have tattoo, you will be asked for a hepa test.
I have a tattoo but the clinic didn't ask me for an additional test. I am applying under spousal sponsorship and meds done last June.

Just wondering why they didn't request an additional test even If i have tats?

I have many tattoos and was expecting them to ask me to do the hepatitis test

But the doctor didn't ask for it, he just asked me where I got them done.. and then he just counted how many I have :S

Anyway apparently it is down to the discretion of the Doctor, he will decide yes or no

Perhaps its to do with how many and which country you had them done in... who knows, anyway it has saved you some money in not having the hep test done

Hi! Is there a possibility that the cic will require me to do that even if the doctor didnt require me to? As far as i know, the panel physicians responsibility is to do the med exam only but the cic has the final decision if an applicant still needs medical furtherance.

My med results has been forwarded but no confirmation yet from cic that they received it already and we dont have sponsor approval yet.

There's probably a 0.001% chance that CIC will ask for this of even bother to look into it

Medically wise they look for any shading on the chest x-ray and also your blood test results - if there was anything serious the doctors would have told you

Providing you don't have an existing medical condition, there is a small chance CIC will ask for anything more regarding medicals

Hi,

I have a questions regarding the medical for an inland application. We're going to send in our application in December 2014 however we are living in Chile right now and I would like my husband to get his medical done here so we can send in our application once we arrive to Canada. If the validity of the medical is 12 months, yet the processing times for the inland application are well over that, will he have to do the medical again? Isn't that a little redundant? Can anyone comment on the cost of having the medical done in Canada? If he is requested to submit a second medical then he'd have to do one in the Toronto area.

My parents received notification to take medical exam within 30 days. My question is can they request to delay the exam by 20 days?
