Hey Guys,
Quick Question: We received the next step in our spousal sponsorship and that is to get a medical exam. Not knowing we only had one month to complete the exam from the date the email was received, we are running low on time. My husband currently lives here with me in Canada.

We also have to submit a police certificate and the directions were as follows: "In addition to a police certificate, residents of Queensland must submit Traffic History going back to their 18th birthday or the day on which their first Australian driver's licence was issued"

He is currently on a working holiday Visa. When applying for this visa, we had to get a police check done. So we have the paperwork for that (Queensland National police check) but it's dated up until July 11th, 2014. He came to Canada in October of 2014 and has been here ever since.

So my question is does he have to get another one from Australia even though we already have that one? Or does he have to get one done from here in Canada from the last 2 years or both? And will we get it on time to submit it for the 21st of October?

Also, he has never had a drivers licence due to the fact that he's epileptic so there is no traffic history to report. Would a written explanation from us be enough? All this information is due on the 21st of October and I am stressing as the letter states that if they do not receive the information in time, it could result in refusal. We have put a lot of time, energy and money into this and we are expecting our first baby at the end of the month. It's a lot to take and and ANY information or guidance would REALLY help!

Thank you for your time!

Hi

He will need a new Australian PCC, as he was in Australia after the last one was issued. He does not require a Canadian PCC.

For the traffic check, see if they will provide a letter stating that he has no history with them. Otherwise, perhaps a letter from a doctor stating his medical condition prevents him from driving.

If you need more time, message IRCC and ask. They will normally grant an extension.

I am so glad to hear from you! You helped me immensely with my last post! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Even though there is only a 3 month gap from when the last one was issued until he arrived in Canada, we will need a new one? Surely if he committed a crime within those 3 months, he wouldn't have been let in to Canada in the first place! I understand they need to be thorough but I could really use a break at this point!
Thankfully it's a Monday and not a long weekend in Australia tomorrow, so I will contact them and see if I can get any answers from them. I was under the impression that they are quite sticky with extensions but it's worth a shot!

Thanks again! Don't be surprised if more questions pop up, lol!

EDIT**
Any advice on his medical exam? As mentioned above, he is epileptic and unable to obtain a license, however he is fully functional and works full time. He is on medication to control his epilepsy though and does see a specialist every 3 months to follow up with medication. Does anyone have any experience with this?

For countries where you have lived for six months or more, the police certificate must be issued after the last time you lived in that country.

His epilepsy won't be an issue.

You are so great, thank you!

He will definitely need the extension as I just spoke to the Australian Federal Police and it won't be received back in time to submit by the 21st of this month. Where/how would I ask for an extension for this? I've read so many different things the last few days, I can't seem to think straight myself.

Reply to the email request. I would also send a Case Specific Enquiry.

Which option in the drop down should I choose? I was thinking the only one that notes anything about documents. Is this correct?
I'm trying to upload a link or a photo of the drop down menu, but it won't allow me to.

Not sure, sorry. It's been several years since I've sent a CSE. Just pick whatever option you think is best.

Not a worry, thank you. I've now submitted the request.
Do you remember what the medical exam tests for? I imagine drugs/alcohol (substance abuse) and diseases among other things ? My husband will occasionally use marijuana for his epilepsy (advised by doctors not to stop) however he doesn't have a medical marijuana license. Will this be an issue you think?

They don't test for drugs. They test for diseases. See here for a detailed account of the medical http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/resources/publications/dmp-handbook/index.asp.
