Have any of you going through your PR application been forced to an Ontario hospital emergency for a problem not covered by temporary medical insurance.

Sadly, my wife miscarried this week. Both of us inexperienced with the miscarriage process, took her to emergency. We will likely have atleast a $1500 bill to pay, maybe more if the natural expelling process doesn't happen as expected. Frankly, having recently finished university I, as the sponsor, am not in a position to immediately pay this debt. I will have to pay it off gradually.

What impact will this have on her PR processing?

Thanks.

I'm so sorry to hear about the miscarriage. You have my condolences.
If you make arrangements with the hospital to pay off the bill in installments, which you should be able to do, it shouldn't make any difference to the PR application.

Thanks, I hoped that might be the case. I was hoping to use the cash that I do have to help her buy a new violin (she's a musician). Debating whether or not to do this to keep her spirits up, or use that cash to immediately pay the debt.

Very sorry about the miscarriage. The debt will not affect your application to sponsor you wife or her PR application.

I'm so sorry....

sorry about the miscarriage but the medical debt will not affect they are more concerned about bankruptcy n immigation loans in default

Thanks for the support, everyone.

A word of warning to new immigrants without insurance:

We had a real scare initially dealing with the ontario medical system. Apparently, only the emergency is setup to deal with indviduals who aren't properly insured. We tried a walk in clinic at first, was directed to a gynecologist who promptly told us he did not take uninsured people even if they could prove they had enough cash to cover the service ( we have family that can help with cash, but I am refusing this help unless absolutely necessary. ) We went online and looked up many doctors, and no one would take an uninsured person. Furthermore, every one of them required us to wait a full month before seeing them.

Anyhow, my point is simple: don't waste your time with the walk-in clinics. They simply aren't setup to deal with uninsured people. Go directly to the emergency.
