I have a friend I want to invite to stay with me for 6 months. Unfortunately my friend had a stroke but now recovered. In case of any doctor appointments (NOT dental, pharmacutical, chiropractic, glasses etc) are required during the 6 month visit, is there any general doctor appointment type coverage available?

Any sort of coverage would have to be through private insurance that your friend would purchase themselves. There will be no coverage provided by Canada.

Generally speaking, this kind of private insurance coverage is very expensive and will almost certainly exclude anything related to your friend's medical history. Your friend will be best off paying for everything out of pocket. This will almost certainly end up being the cheapest approach.

Thank you so much for the quick reply. Is this the same for people that apply for a work visa or study visa with the intent to get a PR etc. ??

No - that's different since someone under a work permit or study permit is coming to Canada to live here temporarily (vs. coming to visit). In that case that individual will qualify for coverage in Canada. Note that work permits tend to be extremely difficult to secure since you need a job offer and approved LMIA. Also, for both the study permit and work permit, it's possible your friend may have to go through a medical and if the stroke is quite recent, this could create issues in passing the medical.

For study permits you either get internation medical coverage through youe schools or skme provinces add you to their provincial plan.

Would add that a friend visiting for 6 months may be a red flag for CBSA. Your friend may be asked to prove that they habe enough savings to support themselves and a home to return to in their home country.
