Medical and police checks

How long are they valid for? My problem is the police check is due any day and the medical is set for 5/5/10 but I can't apply to sponsor my wife for 3 more months. Unfinished business. It's my understanding that the UK medical examiner sends her info direct and if my app arrives 3 months later they might not meet up. I suppose I could just cancel the medical and wait. What do you think?

The medical is valid for 1 year, the Police Certificates can't be older than 3 months when submitted.
