why is sharing information in a whatsapp group chat better than sharing it in the public internet forum so everyone can see everything without using an mobile app, and where the information here can be indexed by search engines so people can find relevant results by just googling it?

the whole point of this thread is to share timelines in a per month basis and ask questions, so i really don't get the obsession with creating another channel of communication that's closed to general access. is there anything beneficial that you get from posting in whatsapp rather than here?

I understand your point. For me and maybe some of us, WhatsApp is simply easier and more convenient to use. Not everyone wants to create an account on a forum just to post an update, whereas many people already use WhatsApp daily and can quickly share or receive updates there.

I’m not suggesting that WhatsApp should replace this forum. People who prefer sharing their timelines publicly here can absolutely continue doing so. The WhatsApp group is just an additional option for those who find it more convenient. It’s simply a matter of personal preference.

Fair enough on convenience, but my issue is more about privacy than ease of use. WhatsApp ties everything to your phone number, and in a group that number's visible to everyone else in it. Fine if it's people you trust, but in bigger groups all it takes is one or two people misusing that number - spam calls, added to random groups, whatever. Happened to a few people I know.

Forums don't have that problem since you're not handing out contact info just to participate. So I wouldn't call it purely a preference thing, there's a real trade-off people should know about going in. Still fine as an optional add-on though.
