@beeelythe: That doesn't make sense. Step 1 is supposed to be purely sponsorship approval - can you afford to take care of your partner or not. Common-law related delays would be in Step 2, right, where they start considering the relationship details. So I think the MP is simply trying to avoid helping. I would say hang in there, it would probably come sooner than mine.

@kasia333: Yes I sent the medical receipt with the file, but this Medical Received note is visible in the Permanent residence application column, not the sponsorship column. Does that mean its being updated by VO, not Mississauga Office? Because Mississauga only works on sponsorships I think.

that is how everyone's file gets entered into the system if the medicals were submitted upfront. it just means cic received the medicals in the application. it means absolutely nothing else.

there is no way to confirm if an application actually makes it to the visa office. some visa offices will send an AOR once it's received, most don't. Basically it's hope and prayer that it gets where it needs to go until you hear directly from the VO.

I have no idea. We don't have the "medical received" note yet.. I keep checking both columns... I don't know how long it takes them to retrieve medicals... or to link it up with the application.. or to make a decision if the medicals are "good to go". The place I did my medicals in (which was listen on the government website etc.), told me that if anything wrong shows up in the tests, they are obligated to call.. so since I got no call, I assume my medicals are fine. I just hope they retrieve them soon.

I tried to explain that to her assistant, but he insisted that his 20 years of experience in that area was how he knew he was right and I was mistaken. It was one big brush-off.

I reached out to my MP and we representative said they wouldn't be willing to help until at least late August because "you're common-law and that takes longer so they probably will want to send your application to LA." Disheartening.

NO! wrong... commonlaw apps don't get sent to la just because they are a commonlaw application. obviously he has no clue, or at least is not up to date on the protocol. would love for him to check out this forum and see the stats that CLEARLY prove him wrong. i'm sorry you have to deal with such an idiot!

Just got through to CIC and received heartbreaking news. Our application is being mailed back to us because IMM 5285 is incomplete. I don't know how that's possible when we checked and triple-checked everything. I'm so frustrated, I could cry. We're going to have to start the whole process over again.

Has this happened to anyone else?

They are sending back the whole application? Thats very sad, sorry for you. IMM 5285 is one of themost important pieces of form in the whole application. If you were missing something simple like Additional Family or travel history, perhaps they wouldn't have sent back, and asked you to send that one bit in. yokies and Mrs. Purcy had to send in some information recently. Again, sorry for you.

If you have copies of the application lying around, may be check what might have been wrong. May be it will help you prepare to send back in the meantime.

As it turns out IMM 5285 is only for INLAND applications. We didn't include it because we're applying Outland! Apparently it is a mistake on CIC's part that has happened to a few other people as well (there's another thread concerning this specifically). However, it looks like, despite the mistake being on their end, we still just have to start over from scratch...

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!! Logged into ecase this morning and it says DECISION MADE. Went in process July 29. We have a trip planned to Canada in Sept so I guess hubby can land then. I knew it was a good idea to start packing. ;D ;D It was three months to the day

Wow that was quick. What office did it get transferred to? (your timeline says it was transferred). It took you 3 months to get both yourself and your husband approved?!

my ecas showed "medicals received" since day 1 in the system when my status was "application received". i got PPR by email, then changed to in process, then Decision Made.

i wouldn't read too much into it. ecas isn't very reliable for knowing what's going on. it doesn't mean they don't have your receipt, just that it hasn't been entered online. CIC doesn't use this to process the app. i think it's more of an attempt to appear "keeping the applicant informed". don't stress until you have something to stress about!!!!
