If CIC wants an RCMP check, they will insitute a request directly to the RCMP themselves. You only need to send police certificates for countries other than Canada.

I think they would make a request for RCMP check and we need to obtain it on our own.

So this is totally off topic but I have somehow made this site into the tiniest font ever...and I don't know what I did or how to make it go back to normal size...LOL

Maybe this is a hint to get away from here for a while...LOL

HELP!!!

I disagree...if you have lived in Canada for more than 6 months, get an RCMP check done before being asked to do so otherwise you face long delays...believe me I know! They can check RCMP records but to get the check done, they need your fingerprints. Also if you have a common name, I recommend getting it done even if you haven't lived in Canada over six months. This is what has delayed to us and why we are still waiting when many others that applied when we did have already landed. If I had had any idea this might have happened, I would have had the RCMP check...just in case. If you prefer to wait to see if CIC ask for it, you may just regret it as it will massively delay you.

Thanks everyone for your kind congratulations. The Waiting Game Part II begins now.

My next dilemma is whether to take advantage of an upcoming trip to Canada for a family wedding to get an RCMP police check ahead of CIC actually requesting one. It'll be a lot simpler to have it done digitally in Canada at a commissionaires' office rather than wait for a request and have to do it from the UK.

Trouble is, I don't know if CIC frowns upon applicants sending in an unsolicited RCMP certificate or even if they will accept a certificate dated before they've requested one. I can really see no reason why not, but common sense is something that is all too frequently absent from these strict protocols and procedures.....

See my previous post....DO IT!! Whether they want it or not, get your fingerprints done. You can always hang on to the RCMP check to see if they ask for it. Commissionaires will send the results to you. I can see no reason at all why CIC would frown on this. Much better to be proactive than reactive!!

Thanks for that Jen - yes, I think I will take the preemptive step and get the RCMP check done in person in Canada in July. If CIC don't request it then it's only $58 wasted, but if they do then it'll be worth about $300 and a month of my life, which is what it'll cost for me to get it sorted from the UK later on!

Good to see the approvals rattling on forward. I see CIC have updated to say processing apps received on the 17th May now.

I'm particularly hoping for good news for Dair within the next week - she's really suffering the wait, particularly with the issue of the old form that didn't have an email address field.

What is this RCMP all about? Does it apply to all sponsors? Or applicants who have been to Canada? I am getting confused ???. Sorry for this kind of question but I have been reading your posts :) Please enlighten me. Thanks .

It will delay you more than a month. It took CIC London 3 months to send us a letter to tell us exactly what they wanted...this was after us watching everyone else getting approval and us just sitting here like lemons wondering what was wrong and having emails and letters to CIC London ignored. We assumed (wrongly) that we would have a straight forward case as we have been together for 7 years in the UK, no criminal records, only lived in UK...etc. And with courier fees, it has cost us a load to get the fingerprints taken over here, couriered to Commissionaires, paid their fee for digitalising the fingerprints, courier fee back to us and courier to London...more like over £350. (Do I sound bitter??? lol) I just hope someone else can learn from our bad experience. Glad you decided to get it done in Canada. Good luck and hope your wait isn't too long.

The RCMP criminal record check applies to any applicant that has lived in Canada for 6 months or more. My partner has only been in Canada for a total of 6 weeks in his life but because he has a common name, he was asked to get one. It does not apply to sponsors. If the applicant hasn't lived in Canada for over 6 months, you don't have to do it but beware that they may ask for one anyway. If I had known what I know now, way back when we applied, I would have applied for one...just in case. But that is me. Don't mean to worry anyone.

Ahh, thank you so much for the info :) I am the applicant and I have never been to Canada. hehehehhe :) That is too bad, it says 6 months in the application and your husband has only been there for 6 weeks. I hope everything's good now with your application. I hope they won't ask any police clearance from me. I have been too Europe twice ---- 5 months and then 3 months .... They said 6 months in the application kit .. Now I am starting to worry :( God, I hope they won't ask for it :(

Super Yaaay!!!!

I can already access Ecas using my husbands client id and info after yesterdays sponsorship approval :) I cannot believe how these little things can actually make me a happy person :)

Don't worry...you will drive yourself nuts!! lol I doubt they will ask you for the European countries. The only reason they asked for the RCMP check from us was because my partner has a really common name and someone with the same name and (supposedly) same date of birth immigrated to Canada in 1982. We needed the RCMP check to prove that wasn't him. Even though all they had to do was check his work record and taxes here. He has worked for the same company since 1972 so surely it would show a break in service (or paying taxes) if he actually did go to Canada in 1982. But there you go... Glad you can access ECAS now. Good luck in your wait.
