Matching current job "main duties"/title to NOC

Hello guys,

If I understand correctly - we have to select an NOC code along with our job experience, where the title and/or the "main duties" listed in the NOC code match with our job's activities.

Can you give me an idea as to how much of a match is necessary for the govt. to count my experience under that NOC?

I work in a specialized field and I cannot find NOC code that matches my job title and man duties. I work in the Reliability field for an Oil & Gas company.
Only NOC title with "Reliability" in it is Aerospace Reliability Specialist / Space Reliability Specialist. So I cannot use this NOC.

I think 3 out of 13 of the "main duties" listed under NOC code 2141 (Industrial and manufacturing engineers) matches with what I do at my job.
If I use this NOC to describe my current job, will it be accepted?

Also out of curiosity, what happens if the govt. decides or finds that your job doesn't match with the NOC code in your application?

l will really appreciate your help with answering these questions...

About 70% match.

Less than that will likely result in the application being rejected.

I see....

So what is a good option if I there is no NOC that matches my current job by 70%?
I have to give them my job history in the application and I have to enter a matching NOC code.

the title makes no difference. Don't try and find a noc by matching a word in the title.

Search the NOCs and just match the duties.

Got it. That makes it a little bit easier.
But even if I don't consider the title and just focus on the duties, I am unable to find a NOC code where my job duties are a 70% match :-[

Thanks for your help!

I have been looking and I will continue to do so.
Unfortunately, I have had no luck so far. Even this forum has no search results on "Reliability" or related fields....

Again, stop looking for that word.

Briefly, what did you actually do day to day?

I looked for key words in the NOC list that describe my job activities - such as failure, analysis, failure analysis, durability, testing, life cycle planning, etc.

OK, going to need more than this.

What do you do day to day?

Can you describe what else I need to do to find a matching NOC?

I will manage my day to day activities to accommodate your suggestions....

At this rate, read the 1000's of noc code's duties until you find one. I'd like to help you but so far you can't even write in one sentence here what you actually did.

For instance, I was in charge of analysing cost model software and helping deisgn and implement a new one. NOC 2171.

WHAT DID YOU DO?

it is difficult for any of the members to identify your NOC code. A good way is to search it without using the trade jargons. Try and find the NOC codes which together can completely describe your duties. Don't decide on the basis of titles. After finding out NOC codes, narrow down by which one of them closely identified with your role.
You can use a third party help (companies like docvery/docveri). This is a paid service
Or you can write to CIC, to find out more about your NOC. Don't remember the email address and cannot guarantee a quick turnaround from them

I'm afraid there was some miscommunication between us. I appreciate your help deeply and I will equally appreciate a more respectful tone in your responses.

I answered your question as well as I could - looking for key works is really all I have been doing.
I would go to a NOC that has some relation to my activities and try to see if it matches. If it doesn't, I'd scroll down to the bottom of the page and see other NOC codes related to that one.

I understand your approach to read 1000s of NOCs. But I have to find relevant ones to my job, right? Not just read any and all codes.
Are you suggesting that I pull up the NOC list and read all of them one by one? I am hoping there's a better approach to finding the right NOC...

Thanks for the suggestions.
If I am not mistaken, the only way to contact them if if you want to discuss an existing application?
But if I can ask them this question, I want to - I will see if I can find any contact emails.
