Hi all,

Firstly thank you so much for all the help! I am still waiting for my passport back (which I should get by the first week of January). I am thinking of getting married before the landing and notifying CIC about it. My questions are:

1. My partner and I belong to a different religion. How would that affect the process?

2. How long will it take (an assumption) after I include my partner in the PR application process?

  1. There might be some additional scrutiny depending on how long you have been in a relationship, but the actual differences will have no effect on the application itself.
  2. If you marry before you land, your COPR and immigration visa will need to be returned to IRCC. Just notifying them is not sufficient. Your wife would need to go through processing as a PR applicant, including medicals. Failure to do so will result in you being unable to sponsor her in the future. Expect the processing time to be 6 months to a year. Whatever you do, do not make the mistake of marrying her and landing as single.
