Hi
I have a quick question from a friend.

My friend has a 2 years work permit and is working as a concierge for a company down town. He has his finance and they are planning to get married. She is a PR holder and she will need to sponsor my friend. She has been working but is going to school full time from next week and will not be working again for some time

She has also taken some student loan from the govt. They are planning to get married in February 2017 and have been together for 2 years now.

What they want to know is
- If they get married can she sponsor him taking into consideration she is not working now and have taken some student loan
- Can he add his own payment as he will be the one working until she finishes school
- will the loans and non working be a hindrance towards the sponsorship

thanks

If they are able to draw focus as to how they plan to support themselves in the Relationship Questionaire that should be ok. I have student debt as well and I am a sponsor -- They haven't said anything about the student debt. I think it's:
- Non-discharged bankruptcy
- Already owing CIC / IRCC for a previous sponsorship that required social assistance
- Being on social assistance

There is a few more conditions you can find here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse-apply-who.asp

thanks for the update.

she does not owe the govt and neither does she owes IRICC

She can follow that questionaire link, that should help her determine if she is eligible.

She should be able to sponsor you even though she is going to school. You should include a plan in the application about how you two will support yourselves once you get PR. There you can mention that you are working now, your salary, any savings or investments, the job she hopes to get once she graduates, etc. If any family members are willing to help, you should include a letter from them stating this.
