I am in exact same situation like u. i will be landing on 7th june then come back to US in 2 days. i will be getting married in July. But i got info that you cant sponsor ur wife while you in US. u have to be physically present in Canada to be able to sponsor her. people told its like 4 to 6 months process time but i dont know how long in real.

PR processing will take a lot longer if you plan on getting married prior to your visa. Addl documents submission (NSO certified Marriage cert alone takes 2-3 mos to get, all your prior docs should be updated to change your status and include your husband)

If you get married after PR, you will be underoing spouse sponsorship for your partner. its faster AFAIK and safer. But you have to land in canada and atleast wait for your PR card (1month) and wait for spouse sponsorship soooo that would be around 6mos max till you get your spouse into canada. Also theres no need for proof of funds to sponsor your spouse.

NOTE; DO NOT GET MARRIED AND NOT UPDATE YOUR VISA OFFICE UNTIL AFTER LANDED PR. You will not be able to sponsor your husband FOREVER. Atleast that wsa the reply i got from Manila visa office when I inquired about it.

Current Situation:
Ongoing PR application and is waiting for medical request. Applied as single.

Dilemma:
I want to marry my fiance.

Questions:

1. Can I marry my fiance while my application is being processed?
a. If yes, do I have to increase my POF? Will it mean more waiting time for my Visa to be released?
b. If no, please tell me why.

2. Can I marry my fiance after the local VO released my visa and before landing?
a. If yes, what are the repercussions of this decision?
b. If no, please specify why.

I am open for any other advice or opinion in order for me to have a better judgment on how to marry my fiance before I go to Canada and complete the landing 'cause it's a waste of money to buy 1 round trip ticket and another 1 way ticket to complete the landing and go back to marry my fiance.

Thanks a lot for the replies.

Neel09 - I also got this info that we need to be in Canada to sponsor our spouse. I had a doubt in this. If I am already married before I started this processing, I would be applying for my wife as well and getting a PR for her also by landing in Canada and coming back. In this case we are just showing proof of funds for our partner in addition to the marriage certificate and other proof. Logically speaking, I should be able to do the same now also. Not sure if this is a valid question. Thats the reason I posted my query here.

OK I'm bringing back this old topic 'cause I wanna know if the quoted statement is possible and realistic.

Thanks everyone.

2-3 months with job prospects is quite hard to get. You dont need to have a job before you can sponsor your husband.

just get visa, land, get pr card (1month), go back to PH and get married, go back to canada process spouse sponsorship and live happily ever after in winter wonderland.

In my case, i got married first and moved application until I got the marriage cert and updated all my spouse's documents a good 4 months of wait.. had a very long vacation lol.

Good Luck!

If you have already got Visa, do not marry before landing to Canada.

If you marry in between PR and Landing period, you will not able to sponsor your spouse in future.

pasi,

I dont know what your situation is but do not get married before you land. If you have already been issued a canadian visa on ur passport for landing purpose and before you land or plan to marry you again need to inform the visa office and go through their long process god knows how long. Like one of my friend who applied same time with me the AINP and we both got nominated at same time, after that before he sent his application to CIC he got married so he and his wife got at same time. But if you already on verge of getting pr and land its not advisable to marry unless there is no there is no other option. This is what i just understood from the forums.

But my question still remains for the experts in the room. My situation is i am landing pretty soon then come back. then will get married in july mayb. So do i need to wait until i get the pr in hand? where will be the point that i can sponsor my wife assuming that i move to canada. Do someone need a job as a requirement to sponsor the spouse? this is confusing as i heard mixed messages from many that you need to show job.

Neel09 - Appreciate your reply. You answered me in the form of your questions :) When someone answers your questions, I will get the info I am looking for.

I am not getting married in this year. So my visa and landing would be the first thing to happen. I am clear on that part.

Hey pasi,

I have another question for you since u will be landing from US. When you land to show POF can we take bank letter saying our balnace or need to show in form of cash, travellers check or certified check only. Also i dont know if they ask me how many days i am staying there i cant lie bcoz i will be there only for 2 days and come back.

Also i was trying to get info if i can put my car on the list of goods to follow later as the car is not yet paid in full, its just brand new from last year.So i dont have the title of the car even though i can show them registration but dont know if they will accept it. Is it possible to list it now and then b4 move to canada i can pay it off to take with me orelse i can sell it off. But that i can decide that time when move but if i dont get it listed now then even if i plan to take it i have to pay a ransom duty and tax for sure rite?

Neel09 - I ll try to answer you to the best of my knowledge. You can show your POF in any form. Cash or bank statement or letter or travellers check.. anything is fine. But make sure to declare that amount in the customs declaration. For the number of days stay, you can be honest with them and say that you came in just for getting the landed immigrant stamping (before your temporary visa expires) and that you would be moving to Canada at a later point of time. That is not an issue.

Regarding the car, it is not advisable to take it with you when you go in the first time to get your landed immigrant stamping. They usually have lot of questions and rules with respect to customs. Also when you plan to move to Canada, do consider all the export import rules to take your car to Canada. From the posts that I read in this forum, I came to a conclusion not to take my car with me. But if you got a new one, I know it is not a good decision to sell it off so soon. So you need to decide based on the amount you would be paying as customs duty and the formalities involved in this process.

I would advise you to read through other posts as well and get suggestions from other seniors also.

If you really want your girlfriend or fiance to be with you in Canada, the only and safest way to do that is land-go back to country of origin-marry-go back to Canada-apply for spousal sponsorship program.

If you got married while Embassy is processing your PR you MUST inform the local VO that you got married but this situation will add two to three months more on your PR processing time plus you have to make sure that your wife is fit to go to Canada because if you are medically admissible but your wife isn't, you will sure have a problem. Worst case scenario, both of you will not be granted visa.

You have no chance of getting your wife to Canada if you got married after receiving visa and before landing in Canada because the Canadian Embassy will think that your relationship is not genuine. You can challenge the verdict by showing proofs i.e. pictures, love letters etc but it will take time.

One round trip ticket and another one way ticket will cost you less than going all the trouble if you chose the wrong option. HTH

Hello,
I am from Turkey and I did my application to Damascus in December 2009.
Now they call me to an interview in 26 July 2010 to Damascus. I have a fiancé and I did not mention about her in my demand. Because I thought to sponsor her after I got the permanent residence. But I noticed that sponsorship is a costly and hard way to bring her, so I decided to marry her. So what do i need to do to add her to my file. Should I marry her before the interview? What happens if I marry her after I get my CSQ? Will my CSQ be cancelled and I will need to apply for it again if I marry her? Please help me, If it will be a problem to marry after obtaining the CSQ, I will marry her in this month. I have very limited time. They say I need to inform them about my marriage immediately but I am not sure whether they cancel my interview if I do that. What will they want me to send more about my future wife?
Thanks for your quick answers...
