My fiancee and I are living in Canada and are planning on going to Hawaii to get married and then returning to Canada. I am trying to find out if she will have any issues getting back into Canada after the wedding. Here are the specific details about our situation:
- I am a Canadian citizen
- She is an American citizen
- She is in Canada on a student visa
- We lived together in the US for six months while I was there on a student
- We have been living together in Canada since January 2010, so we are now officially common-law
My instinct is that since we are already common-law and since she has a student visa, she should have no problems getting back into Canada. But I still want to cover all of my bases and find some information to back this up.
I am also concerned about being denied entry to the US for the wedding since US customs and border protection may think that I will try to stay in the US after the wedding. But that should be taken care of simply by demonstrating that we have return tickets, that she is returning for school and that I am working in Canada.
Thanks,
Chad
