Hello!

Just a quick question! My husband and I got married last May and are working on his application at the moment. The application is almost done, but we don't have our marriage certificate yet because in Ontario you have to wait 3 months after the wedding to request one. Then it takes a couple of weeks to come in the mail.

I was wondering if we absolutely need that piece of paper for our application, or can we send in the part we got at the wedding "record of solemnizatiob of marriage"? And maybe send in the actual certificate after? Of course we have pictures, invitations etc...

Thank you! :)

The record of solemnization of marriage is not a marriage certificate.

Your application will be returned if you send it without the actual marriage certificate.

Thank you for your answers!

You don't have to wait three months to request it. Request it right away and it's possible you might get it a lot sooner. I had mine within three weeks of getting married.

Yeah? Our officiant told us we had to wait 3 months... You got married in Ontario also? Did you have to go through a special request to get it sooner?

It's what they tell everyone.

Yes - I got married in Toronto. I submitted it the Monday after we got married. Normal process.

Well then guess what I'm doing first thing tomorrow?! ;)

And I'm assuming that only a copy is required for the PR application, not an original?

yes only a copy is required

Thanks!!

One more question, when ordering, there are 2 options: File Size Marriage Certificate or Certified Marriage Certificate...
Which one should I order that will be accepted for our PR application?

:)

I sent accidentally with my inland application our civil marriage statement instead a certificate. They didn't send application back to us and we both have got AOR in the email. We also called to CIC and they advised us to send a marriage certificate in mail to them with UCI and contact information. And after we got application number with AOR, we also used IRCC web form to upload a certificate to them. So they don't always send application back but every case is different I guess.

it took only a few weeks for us in Ontario to get the certificate. NOT three months. we waited for the certificate then submitted our application.
good luck!

You do not have to wait 3 months I've heard of ppl getting it after 3 months (rare) but definitely not having to wait 3 months that's ludicrous
