Hi everyone,

I am separated since 2022 (no divorce or annulment yet). However in my CRA records, the separated marital status only changed from married to separated for year 2024 tax filing because when I had my tax filings for year 2022 and 2023 both through an accountant they still put my marital status as married. I don’t know if this matters in relation to PR application or does IRCC cross reference this with the CRA? My supporting documents such as affidavit of separation, statutory declarations and when I started filing for divorce all show my date of separation is year 2022. Does anybody have any idea? Thank you

No issue

Thanks for responding. So IRCC does not normally check CRA records then?

Depends on the application. That said, they do understand that tax filings represent status in the tax year not current status and that it takes time to get divorced.
