Spouse wrote test a few days ago and not marked complete yet but background was marked complete for her today also.
It appears test and background are processed independently.

Does anyone know if finger prints given during PR application about 5 years ago still good for Citizenship application? How does IRCC decide who to ask to give fingerprints?

If you're asked to give them, you're asked to give them.

There's no clear info on why, no clear pattern on whom they ask for them. It's quite likely it's mostly random as a sort of audit check (are the people filing for citizenship the same as the people approved for PR), plus some subset (e.g. fingerprints not on file due to age / format / other issues).

Possible also that there's some reason to check for criminal records (common name or other coincidences) - but no clear pattern.

I followed the pattern. Lots of people who have their fp in system still get request. My understanding is that it's mainly for criminality check and it triggers if part of your name is common with someone who has a record!

No, I did not get a ghost update.

Seems a lot of people got fingerprints request. So did my wife. While my BG was completed, hers is still in progress likely because of that fingerprints request. She is due to do them today. Does anyone know if this normally delays the overall process?

having FP request is not bad at all and seems to be used to validate criminality

the black hole is security thats where people can get stuck for months or even years and even ircc cant tell whats happening and thats seems correct because they really dont have a visual on this step since its done by other entities

so you may do your FP , and criminality will get validated but your BG may stay in progress because security is not done yet

from what i saw on a lot of applications this where things can go wrong :

Security can be the longest wait , this will generate the following situation ( everything green except bg and prohibition )
Presence second reason for delays is an error on calculation ( especially if this will put you under the minimum required ) , this will generate the following situation ( everything green except presence and prohibition ) ircc will redirect the applicant to a judge for a final decision.

all of the other steps are just a couple of months waiting game , which is definitely worth it for a citizenship application

I read the book two times and used the citizenship application on play store. It looks like Canadian flag. There are several tests that are similar to the actual test. One week study and took the test
