THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR NEW IMMIGRANTS COMING TO CANADA ESPECIALLY ONTARIO. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO APPLY FOR OHIP THE 2ND DAY AFTER YOU ARRIVE OR ONCE YOU ARE ABLE TO OBTAIN A CANADIAN BANK ACCOUNT.

OHIP NOW COUNTS YOUR 3 MONTHS WAITING PERIOD FROM THE DATE IN WHICH YOU APPLIED NOT THE DAY YOU ARRIVE.

MADE THAT MISTAKE WITH MY WIFE... SHE ARRIVED FOUR WEEKS AGO AND JUST LAST WEEK WE DECIDED TO APPLY ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL AT THE END OF MAY FOR THE HEALTH CARD TO BE VALID.

hi ikon! i was inform different. i landed 1 month ago, and tried many times to apply for the OHIP (but got some problem with the address req.) the lady in service ontario inform me to take my time gather my requirements because i wont be covered anyway until 3 months after i landed which is may.

Hello Manila applicants,
I am the sponsor of my wife in the Philippines and we applied in January 2014. Our application is going smoothly but there is suddenly something that worries me.

So here's the issue: My wife is coming from a poor family and she is still living at her parents. The problem is that they are living in a compound within metro Manila which is "squatters place", they are coming from the province. So this means she don't really have official address. No door number. I've put in the application the closest street name and city.

So my question is: Will the VO need to send her some paperwork? How to make sure she will receive if ever they send something through mail? We included her email address in the application.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

you wont get anthing in the mail while the papers are on process. every communication will be thru email until they will ask for the passport. as soon as your wife sent her passport thru mail, then expect also the passport coming back thru mail also, but the courier will contact her too informing that there is a package from the embassy being delivered soon.

Quick question, PPR comes by regular mail or e-mail?
Thanks

Holy s#*t 18+months would'nt blame you if you did go postal. Yours is the longest processing time I've seen on this thread.I really hope they get yours done soon.
I've noticed that CEM is run like a prison( don't bother us we will get to it when we can) but that being said how can they expect anything different with no word coming from CEM. Naturally people are going to inquire when it takes forever.
Best Wishes, hoping COPR will arrive soon.
Ya, it's been so much fun! I am just know waiting for the "ding" on my phone after 9 pm to 3 am (Ontario). I notice that that's when they seem to email me. Hoping it's tonight, I bought my tickets already to go there this Friday and bring them home March 21st. I was very confident that my MP won't mislead me....stupid me! lol. I have until Wednesday to move them at a $600 cost.
Now my MP is trying to tell me that even they can't call the Embassy, there's no number! BS!, my previous MP from another municipality called them Dec 2012 and talked to "Kelly", it's in my notes!

Just a couple of items for those that are coming about OHIP and driver's license. (for people landing in Ontario).

About OHIP - (Ontario health card) It will be in effect 90 days after you land. (i.e. months) You don't need to apply right away but will need to apply in that 90 day period. (Best to do it early as possible. You will need 3 pieces of ID.. Passport, COPR and a id that has your new address on it. You can get this by obtaining the Ontario government ID. My wife got this and it took about 3 weeks in the ail to get it. It is a picture ID and it is very useful to it (cost is 35$). If you want health insurance for those 90 days before your OHIP card comes into effect than you can get blue cross insurance (cost depends on age of applicant and amount of coverage), but this is important, you need to get this BEFORE you get on the plane to come to Canada. You cannot get it once you have landed.

About driver's license - Remember this is for Ontario - We were just at the driver's place and got the information. If you have a Filipino license you can drive here for 60 days after you land ... Please note. Depending how long you have been driving for they will credit the years to your driving record here. You should get your driver's record in the Philipinnes. (Got to LTO and ask for it - it cost my wife 100peso). If you don't get it you will need to get it when you are here. The document will be good for 6 months from the date you get it from the LTO. What is the benefit for this? In Ontario we have a graduated license, so those that are new to driving have restrictions on when and where they can drive and they have to do more tests. By having the document from the LTO you can go to a G2 or even G license depending the number of years you been driving. You will need to take a written multiple choice test and a driving test.

You don't need to get an international license, as the girl said they don't recognize it here. The regular license is good enough. (My wife also got the international license)

Hope this helps some people because it was confusing for me...

NewbieMay is right .. it starts 3 months after you land. But you need to apply in the 90 day period. It is best to try and do it early. If you don't get the card in the mail by the 90 days you can go to the service Ontario desk and they can print you a temporary card until you get the one in the mail.

On the home stretch now, you have waited long enough.
Good Luck, hope you get word soon.

Hey Auditt, just read your posts... Yikes.. I am surprised you have not gone ballistic yet... You have shown great patience. I don't know who your MP is but they really have failed for you. 18.5 months is way too long and for Mr Alexander saying that he wishes an embargo to people emailing the embassy when people lives are on hold is downright despicable. The guy has no clue what it is like to wait through the inept process.

I can tell you if I was in your shoes I would be writing to the media with a copy of the letter he sent and along with all the screw ups they have done. It is inexcusable in my opinion.

But it sounds like you are near the end, believe me it will be a great relief when you get the COPR. Good luck, safe travels and I hope you and your family will be reunited soon

Thank you so much Steph. I feel less stressed of delays in the process and tha something would get lost in mail or in someone else's hands. Which would be the better way to contact embassy? Case specific inquiery, Email or phone?
Usually case specific inquiry or email. There are a few email addresses floating around this thread that will get to them. Your MP in Canada is able to phone them.

Is it a Spousal Application for PR/Family Class or otherwise?

I'm beginning to understand why all Filipino care-givers seem to apply from Hong Kong . . . it's processed there so perhaps it's "faster" since you're already there (other requirements notwithstanding).
Yes, we're under Family Class. My mom is already in Canada and she applied our application in Canada also that's why it got us confused why it was moved to HK. So, are you saying that our application was transferred to HK for faster processing? Thank you :)
