I just called Cathay and inquired about the first time immigrant fare thing. I was quoted 38k+ pesos plus $20 service fee for Manila-Toronto, you'll have to go to their office in Makati to avail. Not much of a difference from the one I got directly from their website :P

Depends on what you asked for. If you look at the student http://www.cathaypacific.com/cpa/en_PH/offerspromotions/offerslanding?refID=f082f439d085e310VgnVCM62000007d21c39____&priority=3 and overseas worker http://www.cathaypacific.com/cpa/en_PH/offerspromotions/offerslanding?refID=ba91f439d085e310VgnVCM62000007d21c39____&priority=3 fares for, say, Vancouver you will see they are the same (there is not fare for Toronto for students, could be all booked or something).

You will see there is also more than one rate. When you open the details you can see the differences. For instance, the $440 fare to Toronto does not allow you to collect Asia Miles, the $920 one does. The $1170 lets you use miles to upgrade your ticket, the $920 doesn't. I don't know what differentiates a $520 from a $440 though I would imagine it is probably flight times (even for regular tickets there is a base $1090 ticket with limited flight times and a $1220 with a much expanded number of flight times).

For me, the $440 or $520 would be fine. I don't care about the points that much.

Oh, and also the cheaper seats do not allow you to pre-book what seat you are in. You need the $760 or better seat for that (and you get miles).

Nope no visitor visa. Plus to me going through US is a pain. I doubt we would get the visa in time for that date anyway.

THE 440 DOLLAR TICKET GOES TO 600 AND MAYBE MORE BUT IT GOES THROUGH CHICAGO

didn't bother asking much details. i just gave her my booking reference number and she quoted that price for comparison. the flight I got though for $965.70 online will leave 6:20am but the layover in hk is only 2hrs 25mins.

THATS REDICULOUS,,,,IF YOUR IN HONG KONG THE CHEAPEST ROUTE IS TO FLY BACK TO MANILA AND THEN TO TORONTO,,,,,IF YOUR IN MANILA THE CHEAPEST ROUTE IS TO FLY TO HONG KONG FIRST

Hoping later this month.

It's weird, I was checking out KoreanAir for flights and it keeps giving a message that flights out of Manila have to be booked within the Philippines according to law. No other site does that.
