He did the second round of moving today.. I can't sleep at all because my nerves are totally shot. They moved all the rest of the stuff and had a BBQ goat.. When he got back to the empty house in Davao which still held his suitcase, the rain had come and flooded his suitcase. So now he's in a hotel with a soggy suitcase, lucky his documents are fine. His ex has been cursing him via text message all day and he thinks today was so unlucky.. I won't sleep until he gets out of the Phils. It's always like this for us..

You think the stress will end but it just changes. He still has 4 days before he flies out doesn't he? What happens to all his furniture and stuff he won't bring?

Good thing the documents are fine. Only four days steph. You will be fine, just keep yourself busy.

First time immigrant rate? Never heard of this before, do all airlines offer this if you ask?

Not that I am aware of. Could be a promotion at the time or a travel agent thing to drum up business. I did find stuff like this:

http://www.sulit.com.ph/index.php/view+classifieds/id/9766102/CATHAY+PACIFIC+FIRST+TIME+IMMIGRANT+FARES?referralKeywords=cathay+pacific+first+time+immigrant+fare&event=Search+Ranking,Position,1-2,2

But to me it looks a bit shady.

I asked around and apparently there is no such thing. I think you are correct when you say it is a promo through travel agents.

His parents got all the stuff.. they've been calling dibs on it forever. They don't have very many nice things. The couch will replace their stick furniture. The TV is probably bigger than theirs.. the fridge will probably add to the corner store. The mattresses will probably replace theirs as ours are nicer and maybe they will give the old ones to their old worker who sleeps outside in the stick house. You know how it goes..

Great that it all gets used.

My wife and I were talking about the changes she will experience. I'm a fast adapter so I have to really stay out of her process to adjust.

Has anyone considered the order in which they will help their spouse get their Canadian documents like SIN and health card?

Next day we're going for the SIN card. The health card isn't a hurry for us because he will get it 2 months plus the remainder of the month that he landed.

As far as the changes, I'm just trying to give him as much freedom as possible so he doesn't start to feel stuck because he can't do anything.. hopefully he will start having the chance to do small things on his own so he will feel more self sufficient. Including that is house key and car key right away :D I think I'm going to get him a bike helmet right away too.

I gave her the house key when I was last in the Philippines. Something concrete for her to have right away. Good idea about the SIN card. I think by the time she gets that she will feel ready to get out and see what's available. She will have to get her engineering credentials updated to Canadian standards and that will take a while.

Bike helmet will look weird without a bike.

I will do the sin card right away. Health card I think takes up to three months. Driver's license will not be a huge hurry. But I will try to get everything done within the first week or two. But first I need her to get the visa ;)

He may need to sacrifice something to appease the angry spirits she is flinging at him. Get another goat quick!

I have an email out to Cathay to find out once and for all. They DO have rates for foreign contract workers and foreign students, those programmes are posted on their web site. But so far I have found nothing for a 1st time immigrant rate. I should get a reply some time tonight.

I think what these travel agents MIGHT be doing is using this:
Your dependent's may also enjoy this promo by simply presenting their dependent's visa or a copy of the parent's work permit.

It is part of the overseas worker fare. The travel agents might be accepting other visas and passing them off to the airline as a dependent of an overseas worker. But as I said, I have an email out to them so should know soon.

Got it all on the "Landing Spreadsheet". :)
