Hi all,

I will be traveling to Winnipeg, Canada on February 19, 2021 from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and I have a valid letter of approval for a study permit and I am a student at the University of Manitoba.

The new travel restrictions will be effective from February 22, 2021 which states that I need to reserve a 3-day hotel for quarantine and would cost up to $2000.

I would like to ask whether these new restrictions will still apply to me as I am travelling earlier than February 22? I also already have a quarantine plan from the university.

Thanks

When do you arrive? If after the 22nd, you have a mandatory, 3-day hotel quarantine mandated by the government at your expense. After the 3 days, if negative for Covid, you then quarantine at your own property for the remainder so 12 days.

Well, from February 18th you can officially reserve your room at those desiganted hotels.

I'm assuming the prices will vary based upon availability. Prices could range from 150 - 500$ per night.. which is a huge number, especially for students.

When I went to Toronto in 2017, I booked a fancy suite and it was 330$ per night. It had it all.. UHD TV, 2 double beds, brand spanking new shower and even a view of the CN Tower.

That is also the price I'm assuming. Around 300 per night. Let's see and wait for further information especially when the first people are able to reserve their rooms on February 18th. :)

Very expensive but it is to deter people from entering the country Or Canadian leaving the country for holidays or to visit family.
i just had a side question:
can somebody apply for SP if they have some immigration application in process or maybe a work visa appication in process? Is that possible? Please.

Aren't these restrictions only for non-essential travelers and students exempted from this. This is what I read on the IRCC website and the link was updated 4 days ago plz do check it as everyone is worried about it. And check this section on the website"Essential reasons: quarantine exemption list".

If students are on the essential list then I imagine that everybody will be on the essential list

At least what I'm seeing on the link is just who is exempt IN GENERAL from the 14 days quarantine.
It doesn't refer to the 3 day hotel quarantine. Or I got the wrong link.
We'll see by Thursday who'll be exempt regarding the hotel quarantine
