Hi everyone,

Wondering what your input is on the following situation:

I am looking to sponsor my common-law spouse (who has been in the country since Jan 2016 under a study permit) through an outland application. He is from the US so I assumed this would be the fastest route.
However, his study permit expires at the end of the month (July 31, 2018) and we want to be together while we wait on the application.

Wondering what the best alternative is. At present, our sponsorship application hasn't been submitted as we are waiting on a few documents.

A study permit extension is out of the question as the international tuition fees is too much for us at this time.

Options:
1) Apply to change to a Visitor Visa and then send a PR application.
2) Send both applications concurrently.
OR

3) Send Inland application to at least have an implied status through the OWP.

I appreciate your thoughts. Thank you.

Is he still in school? Is he still studying and going to be completing his program? If so, best option is for him to apply for a PGWP once he completes his studies.

His term actually completed in April but the expiry on the permit is July 31st.

As for studies, the cost of international tuition is a bit too much for us this coming term so we were trying to find solutions to extend his stay while we work on the application (we are pretty close to completing anyway so we considered applying inland).

Graduation is not for a while so PGWP is out of the question for the time being.
