Maintaining PR status outside Canada

All,

I have a question on the below point related to the residency requirement,

If you are outside Canada for extended periods of time, you can accumulate residency days if you are:

• Employed on a full-time basis by a Canadian business or the Public Service of Canada and are assigned a position outside of Canada,

Question:
If I am employed for a Canadian company and has reason to return after 3 years but my payroll is run on US, will those days outside be still considered towards extending my PR?

Others can comment as well but to me it means that you are employed by a Canadian company in Canada, paid in Canada but then assigned out of Canada for specific period of time before returning to Canada.

The way you imply it you are working for a Canadian company but based in the US paid in the US so not therefore assigned temporarily out of Canada so days would not count. But that’s just my view based on limited info posted
