Hello,

I just got my PR status. I am planning to live in Windsor Canada and to work in Columbus OH. I will be travelling every week end to Windsor. So now I will be filling taxes in Canada as well as in USA. So I want to know how the days will be counted for maintaining my PR status against 730 days cap to maintain the PR status? Will it be only 2 days per week when I will be in Windsor or will be the entire week? I just want to maintain status of PR.

Thanks

suppose you leave canada on July 2 and re-enter on July 6. THis will be counted as 4 days in Canada. you may exclude the entry or exit date from your calculation.

round trip on the same date out and in of canda is considered as 1 day.

Only the nights are counted so if you do a day trip to the US, you have not lost any days in Canada. If you leave from July 3 to July 4, you have spent 1 day. If you drive to work in the US on Monday mornings and come back to Canada Friday evening, you will have spent 4 days in the US and 3 days in Canada that week. If you do that every week, after 5 years, you will have 780 days in Canada which is more than enough to keep your PR. If you want to go back to the US on Sunday nights, you will not have enough days.

Just be careful and count your days. Once you reach 1095 days outside Canada, you need to take a long vacation and stay in Canada until your 5 years are up. Is it an option for you to work from home some days?
