Hi everyone!

I'm preparing to go home to Ireland for a visit next week and intend to land with my COPR upon my return to Canada in late April. I am super excited, but also REALLY paranoid and trying to think of every possible 'bad' situation possible as landing is really scary, especially alone at the airport as opposed to just making an appointment or going to buffalo with my SO!

My question is this: What happens if I happen to lose my passport while I am back home visiting? Obviously I'm going to basically glue it to my body so this doesn't happen but I'm really worried something will happen to my COPR/passport while I am at home. The main reason is that most places in Ireland (pubs, restaurants, shops, etc.) only accept passport as form of ID to prove identity or age (there are sometimes spot checks when paying with credit cards, for example). The fact that I will need to carry my passport to restaurants, shops, bars has me very, very anxious.

I know I could get an emergency passport in just a few days in Ireland. However, I am wondering what would happen if I tried to land with a passport that has a different serial number than the one on the COPR?

I know it's kind of silly to worry about this before it's even happened (and I'm probably bloody jinxing myself now!) but, like I said, I want to prepare for EVERYTHING.

Thanks!

Totally understandable. I suggest, you take a couple of sets of photocopies of all the pages of your ppt, especially the ones that contain the ppt numbers, name, dob, and ofb course, the visa. In the unfortunate event that your ppt becomes unstuck from your body without your knowledge ;) , first file a report with the police. In some countries, he police requires copies of ppt to be submitted. Then inform the Cdn embassy responsible for your region and submit a cooy of the police report along with a copy of your ppt. They would then ask you to submit a new ppt and re-stamp the visa on it. This may delay your return, so to avoid the trouble, ensure you use a good quality glue.

Get something like this:
http://www.amazon.ca/Design-Go-Passport-Pouch/dp/B003GEK09I

Or this:
http://www.amazon.ca/Secure-Safe-Money-Great-Travel/dp/B003GEWBBS

I've used a belt similar to this when traveling, and I know others who have used the pouch with no problems. I'm a total worrier, so the peace of mind of knowing it's pretty much attached to me was great.

... probably a lot more comfortable than glue, too ;D

If you think negative and worry, you draw the situation upon yourself. Get a passport pouch with neck strap and carry it everywhere with you on your chest. You will be fine. It surely bring nothing if you think all the time about the passport. Some people would be happy to be in your situation, really.

sakamath:

Yes, LOTS of photocopies! Thanks for the suggestion. :) I'm guessing this is the kind of situation that would require me to actually be in the situation to know exactly what the procedure is, but I can definitely take several copies of all the pages in my passport. The reason I'm so freaked is because my COPR's 'must land by' date is May 24. REALLY don't want to be in my last few weeks of validity and struggling to get new forms, and everything. Probably partly why I am so freaked out. :)

amaranth:

I already have a 'fashionable' fanny pack for it, so thank you!!

mobeyk:

I'm just trying to be cautious. And of course I am happy! That is precisely WHY I am so worried. I am so close at this point, losing my passport would ruin all the hard work we have gone through to get me my PR for Canada.

Thanks for your help everyone!! :)

WHy not get a notarized copy of your passport photo page to show the pubs, and leave the real passport somewhere safe?

Instead of lots of photocopies, take one and scan a copy, e-mail it to yourself, and leave on your e-mail server. That way you can access it anytime ;)
