Hi, I am traveling to the USA for a few days. I still don't have my PRcard so I am going by car with my COPR.

What happens if while in the USA I lose my passport and my COPR? What will be the steps to follow and timings involved to re-enter Canada?

Any suggestions / comments on how to minimize the damages should this occurred?

thanks

Then you'll need to wait until you have your PR card.

Make copies of your passport and COPR and leave them in a safe place (with a friend). If you lose your passport, getting a copy sent to you where you are may help you replace those documents. If you lose your passport, you would have to go to your home country embassy to request an emergency passport. If you lose your COPR, you would have to either wait for your PR card or visit a Canadian embassy in the US and request a travel document.

I do not think Canada immigration will allow you entry if you show up at the border without your passport and without your COPR which means no way for them to verify who you are or if you are really a PR.
