Dear all,

An Indian friend is looking to buy one bedroom plus den in a safe neighbourhood in Toronto. His place of work is Downtown, which is way expensive. Uses the public transport, so would prefer an area with less commuting time to his place of work and a safe environment.

Would appreciate your inputs please.

I assume he's looking to buy a condo.

Might want to indicate his budget.

Thank you Scylla and Steaky for your responses.

Yes he's looking for a condo and his budget would be around 200k.

His place of work is Downtown and he uses the public transport, so he's looking for an area which is not very far from his workplace.

Has he tried searching for condos on realtor.ca? It would be pretty easy for him to find out where condos are available within his price range. If he hasn't done this - this is where he should start.

Thank you Skylla. I shall convey the same to him. He mentioned to me about kijiji and Craigslist. He has been referring to the newspapers as well, but his main concern is a safe neighbourhood for which he won't mind increasing his budget.

If he's looking to buy - he should be looking at realtor.ca (not craigslist or kijiji).

Noted, thank you Skylla. Can you please also suggest a couple of safe neighbourhoods?
That's way too broad a question. You'll need to narrow it down to a specific part of the GTA.

Besides, I live downtown. All of the neighbourhoods I would suggest are way out of your price range.

Hi vin22 for $200,000 your friend can purchase an apartment with 1 or 2 brms in an old building in many areas of the gta, good and not so good areas, the main concern here is the maintenance fee that will be a minimum of $700 per month.
I will suggest that he buys a newer building for 350k because in the end it will be the same monthly payment as the 200k unit.
A new unit will go up in price and it will sell without problems the old units don't sell as fast and for the equity is close to none.
About kijiji the buyer has to rely on the seller's info and don't forget they are selling their property I think it will be better to hire a realtor and buy a property listed on the mls where the buyer's interest is protected and after all the service is 100% free for the buyer.
If you like to get more info about it calculate payments and land transfer tax go to alrivas. com.

Thank you once again. Enjoy your long weekend.
