Hey everyone! I am not sure exactly where to go for advice about my current situation. I'm hoping someone can help me or guide me in the right direction.

I'm a US citizen currently living in Canada as a visitor. I am not employed or a student. I have been here for about a year and a half and have extended my visitor status twice now (my current status expires in October). My boyfriend (CA citizen) and I have not started our Common-Law Sponsorship paperwork yet, but we plan to in June once we are settled into our new apartment. Even though I am a visitor, my entire life is in Canada now.
I need to go back to the US for about a week because my father has just passed away. I am not sure how to approach the situation.

My official Visitor Record (sent to me after extending my visitor status) says that I have temporary resident status and that the document does not authorize re-entry. My US passport is still valid.
If I leave Canada what will happen to my visitor status? What will I need to do to ensure that I am able to return to Canada without any issues?

I'm just really worried I won't be able to come back into Canada.
I've been totally lost trying to find information about this so I really appreciate any help I can get. Thank so much.

yup it looks a little bit tough case in eyes of border officials but don't give up, you wont' know until you try.

It will become void.

You cannot ensure anything.

The most you can do is carry with you all your paperwork that shows your intention of applying for common law and the previous visitor extensions. Usually CBSA officers are understanding when presented with enough evidence BUT there is nothing that will guarantee your reentry.

I figured as much. I ended up getting the plane tickets and I'm going to try. I'm bringing as much evidence with me and crossing my fingers. Thanks so much, you guys really helped ease my nerves.
