I have just had my supervisor wrote me a formal letter about my job duties (excerpt below). I am not entirely sure if this is OK as it looks like this letter fulfills only 4-5 out of 11 of the "Main duties" listed in the official website:

http://www23.statcan.gc.ca/imdb/p3V...&CVD=122376&CPV=2112&CST=01012011&CLV=4&MLV=4

Do you think the officer will be convinced? Is it required to really fulfill 70-80% of the Main Duties?? Is my letter valid for Express Entry purpose??

The job description of Postdoctoral Fellows (PDF)s will vary from lab to lab. In my laboratory, the role of a PDF is to facilitate research in areas I select, but also to broaden their ability to act as an independent scientist. In the case of Dr. XXX, that work involved both academic research projects, which are more open ended, and an industrial research contract, which requires the ability to hit targets/milestones. XXX did a very good job in both aspects of the job.

Our research focuses on the synthesis of small molecules that are then turned into silicone polymers. For the industrial project, the PDF was required to:

  • Design, synthesize, purify and characterize at a molecular level new silicone compounds
  • Polymerize the compounds and characterize them molecularly
  • Perform physical characterization using a variety of techniques, including Young’s modulus, Shore Hardness, thermal performance (DSC, TGSA), optical characteristics (absorbance, transparency), surface hydrophobicity
In addition, as an academic researcher, Dr. XXX:

  • Invented a novel catalyst-free curing method for silicone elastomers and studied its mechanism of action
  • Studied the mechanism of the synthesis of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) initiated by an environmentally benign polymerization catalyst.
These research laboratory skills are not performed in isolation. In addition to the independent scientific work described above, Dr. XXX supervised undergraduate coworkers and performed a key role in writing patents and submitting papers. In two years, Dr. XXX will be a coauthor on one patent, and 5 scientific papers, two of which will be exclusively based on his research work. This constitutes a very, very productive stint as postdoctoral fellow.

Please let me know if you require any further information

Yours sincerely,
