So this is a situation.

I had a valid PGWP until march 2017.
I went out of country.
Applied for a temporary resident visa (TRV) to enter back in canada.
I was granted a visa on my passport valid until Feb 2020.

I came back to canada recently. Now my work permit expires in March 17 after which I believe i am restricted to work BUT I have a vaild visa until 2020 which makes me legally eligible to continue staying here.

Is this a normal process to grant longer Visa thn permit?
Is there any way I can extent my work permit ?

any help will be much appreciated
Thanks

Having a TRV valid until 2020 does NOT allow you to stay here. TRVs have nothing to do with status in Canada. You are only allowed to stay until your current work permit expires. You can apply to extend your stay if you want to stay longer.

Visas are often valid longer than permits.

PGWPs can't be extended. You would need a job offer from an employer with a positive LMIA in order to apply for a new work permit.
