Is there a reason for the Interview? Do they pick those to be interviewed rendomly or is it for those who travel outside Canada very often, or it that missing entry / exit in the application, do you know?

I have no idea. Maybe during my interview, it will come up and I will let you all know.

Hi everyone!

I applied for Canadian citizenship 40 days after my husband, but my LPP has already been completed, while there have been no updates on his application.

He has called IRCC a couple of times, but they only told him that his application is not considered non-routine.

The only difference between our applications is the language proof we submitted. I used my postgraduate diploma from a Canadian institution, while he submitted his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the US, along with a WES evaluation.

Has anyone experienced a similar situation? What would you recommend?

I’m wondering if IRCC needs to verify his documents with the universities in the US, and whether that could be taking longer than usual.

Would it make sense for him to take an approved language test and submit the results instead of waiting for the verification process, assuming that’s what’s causing the delay?

Also, do you think we should reach out to our MP at this point?

Has anyone been through something similar? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

In my case, I have used my US Master's degree as a proof of language skills. Although my Language section of the tracker still shows pending, GCMS notes state that the officer is satisfied with my submission. I believe Language, Prohibitions and Physical Presence - all three of them get flipped to Completed at the same time, even though they may have been reviewed separately by different people at different times.

I would highly recommending obtaining GCMS notes and reviewing what's actually notated in the file. Before doing that, I wouldn't take another language test. AFAIK, IRCC doesn't verify the academic credentials submitting in most cases. They will trust the WES evaluation if they are not familiar with the school that issued your degree.

Regarding reaching out to the MP's office - nobody here can give you a definite answer for this. Besides, you have only mentioned a relative timeline. Not sure when your husband submitted his application and how long has it been since the last update. If it's too early, your MP's office may simply ask you to wait to let IRCC follow their process.

All the best.

Thank you so much for your detailed response! Here’s his timeline:

Location: Toronto
Application sent: March 2nd, 2026
AOR: May 15th, 2026
Background complete: May 25th, 2026
Test ECAS complete: Jun 26th, 2026

We started wondering what might be causing the delay after my LPP was completed while his was still pending. Do you think it’s too early to request GCMS notes at this point?

You can request GCMS notes anytime you want.

If you start seeing a lot of oath ceremony invitations from your application cohort (lookup the thread for March 2026 applicants), then I'd say reach out to MP's office. Until then, it is normal process. And in any case, IRCC will tell you/MP's office that the application is within normal processing times (12 months now IIRC). GCMS notes will be more useful than the MP's office at this point.
