Could someone please explain me what is the Packing List for? I have never had to carry packing list with me when I have visited Canada or any other country ...

From my personal networking.

"Its going well here. Temp is pretty good and manageable even for kids. Sometimes there are slight showers of rain. But overall the climate is soothing.

Now let me throw some light on the "more customs procedures"

In our case, we had to show all the money to customs practically. They checked whether the funds are genuine or not. Coz we carried more funds than that prescribed for the family of 4.

Also, they were keen on opening the bags, and showing all stuff for most of the passengers. But since, we were having a proper consolidated packing list, which we showed them, they were convinced, and did not ask us to open the bags. Thus the detailed packing list helped us from searching for each key of each bag.

So guys, keep your packing list ready, it would be helpful for you.

After we were done with the landing formalities, we boarded a private SUV which charged us 65 $$ for transiting from the YYZ airport to Studio 6 Mississauga. The driver of the cab himself was a Punjabi (from Ludhiana) settled in Canada since 25 years. We had a nice chit chat with him.

OOO BOY! My ECAS status has been changed to: We started processing your application on June 21, 2014!
