LMO to open work permit

I have a work permit which only allows me to work for my current employer as they gave an lmo.
Now I do not plan to work for this particular employer for a long time, and want to know if it is possible to change my work work permit to an open work permit.

Unlikely. Open Work Permits are only issued under very specific circumstances (e.g. you have been sponsored by your Canadian citizen or Canadian PR spouse through the inland process and your applications has received first stage approval).
